Mohamed Salah Shines as Liverpool Defeats Manchester City 2-0 at Etihad

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Mohamed Salah once again proved himself as Liverpool’s key player, scoring one goal and providing an assist in their 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday local time or early Monday (2/24) morning Indonesia Western Time.
The Reds took the lead in the 14th minute through a well-executed corner kick. Dominik Szoboszlai delivered a no-look pass, which Salah swiftly converted into a goal. Not only did he score, but Salah also set up Liverpool’s second goal. In the 37th minute, he assisted Szoboszlai, who calmly doubled the visitors' advantage.
Despite City dominating possession with 66% and recording 16 shots, the absence of Erling Haaland left their attack blunt. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker faced little serious threat. On the other hand, Liverpool played more effectively despite having only 34% possession.
Curtis Jones appeared to extend Liverpool’s lead late in the first half, but his goal was disallowed by VAR as Szoboszlai was caught offside. In the second half, Luis Diaz and Szoboszlai came close to scoring again, but Ederson’s brilliant saves and a block from Abdukodir Khusanov denied them.
This victory marked a promising start for Arne Slot with Liverpool and extended Manchester City’s struggles against The Reds this season, having lost twice with the same scoreline. Additionally, Liverpool ended their winless run at Etihad, securing their first victory at the stadium since the 2018 Champions League.
With this result, Liverpool solidified their position at the top of the table with 64 points from 27 matches, leading Arsenal by 11 points, who have played one game less. Meanwhile, Manchester City remains in fourth place with 44 points.
