SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PSSI has appointed Ajax Amsterdam legend Simon Tahamata as Head of Scouting for national football.

According to the official PSSI website, Simon will be responsible for identifying and recruiting potential talents both from within the country and the Indonesian diaspora abroad, especially the Netherlands.

"We are very enthusiastic about welcoming Simon Tahamata into the PSSI family. His experience and expertise in developing young players will be valuable assets on our journey to the world stage," said PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.

Responding to his appointment, Simon admitted that he was enthusiastic. The man who has Maluku blood admitted that he can't wait to get to work.

"First, thank you for all the good messages I have received. I look forward to working with coach Patrick Kluivert and other technical staff in Indonesia," said Simon Tahamata.

Simon Tahamata was born in Vught, Netherlands on May 26, 1956. He played for the Dutch national team from 1979 to 1986.

He made his debut for the Netherlands on May 22, 1979 in Bern, Switzerland in the 75th FIFA anniversary match against Argentina. From 22 appearances with the Netherlands, he was able to score two goals.

Simon Tahamata started his football career at the TSV Theole club in 1967-1971 as a winger. Then he joined the Ajax junior team, Netherlands until 1975.

In the 1975-1976 season, Simon entered the Ajax first team and played until 1980. His debut with the club when Ajax-FC won 7-0 over Utrecht on October 24, 1976. He is recorded as playing a total of 149 matches, scoring 17 goals and 33 assists.

With Ajax, Simon can be said to be the peak of his career because he won the Dutch League 3 times, namely in 1976/1977, 1978/1979 and 1979/1980. He also contributed one KNVB Cup in 1978/1979 and managed to reach the semifinals of the European Cup I tournament in 1979–1980.
