SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Three Indonesian men's doubles pairs will compete in the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2024, Friday (8/23).

Of the three pairs, two of them are new men's doubles pairs, namely Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin.

In addition, there are also Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto who will compete in the quarter-finals.

The first match will see Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin play against Chinese representatives Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi. This is the first meeting of the two pairs.

“To fight the Chinese pair in the last eight, I have previously met them too. So I have an idea,” Fikri said, quoted from a brief PP PBSI statement.

“We also have to be more prepared. Appear confident. No less important, the communication on the field continues to be maintained,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fajar/Rian, who is the fourth-seeded in this tournament, will face the eighth-seeded from Malaysia Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin.

Looking at the number of meetings, Fajar/Rian have a bigger chance of getting to the semifinals as out of 9 meetings, Fajar/Rian won 8.

However, the All England defending champion admitted that they did not want to relax their focus and were determined to improve their performance to be better.

“It's definitely not easy either. Moreover, lately, the opponent's appearance has also been good and the trend is up again,” said Rian.

On the other hand, another new men's doubles pair Leo/Daniel will also compete in the quarter-finals against host pair Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura.

“Facing them, we will maintain our condition. We will try to give our best performance,” Leo concluded.
