SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has taken responsibility for a costly error that led to teammate Eric Garcia’s red card. The incident occurred in the Champions League match against AS Monaco, where Barcelona suffered a 1-2 defeat.

Ter Stegen admitted that his mistake put Garcia in a difficult position, ultimately leading to Barcelona being reduced to 10 men early in the game.

The match took a turn in the 10th minute when Ter Stegen passed the ball to Garcia, despite a safer option nearby. Monaco’s Takumi Minamino intercepted the ball, forcing Garcia to pull him down, resulting in a red card. "We didn’t communicate well in that moment," said Ter Stegen, feeling responsible for the situation as cited by Movistar.

Playing with 10 men for 80 minutes, Barcelona struggled to keep up with Monaco’s attack. The hosts scored twice through Maghnes Akliouche and George Ilenikhena, while Lamine Yamal scored Barcelona’s only goal. Ter Stegen admitted that the situation was difficult for the team, especially after losing Garcia so early.

Reflecting on the defeat, Ter Stegen expressed his regret. “I feel bad for Eric, it’s painful for him,” he told Movistar. Despite the loss, Barcelona fought hard, but their efforts were in vain against a strong Monaco side, who took full advantage of their numerical superiority.

Barcelona will now look to regroup for their next La Liga match against Villarreal, aiming to bounce back from this tough loss. Ter Stegen's error may have cost them this game, but he remains determined to make amends.
