Francisco Rivera and His Role at Persebaya: Slowly but Surely
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Persebaya Surabaya's Francisco Rivera is showing steady progress in the BRI Liga 1 2024/25 season. Despite being the best player last season, his transition to Persebaya has been closely scrutinized, Friday, (11/29/2024).
Under Paul Munster’s coaching, Rivera has undergone significant adjustments to fit into a collective playing style. "He has to run more and work for the team; this isn’t like Madura United, where he could wait for the goals to come," Munster explained.
Rivera is being integrated into a system where every player contributes, leaving no room for individualistic play. "No walking around; everyone has to work and create opportunities," added the Northern Irish coach.
In 11 matches so far, Rivera has recorded two assists, with his presence improving Persebaya’s midfield dynamics. "He’s still adapting, but he’s enjoying it, and most importantly, we’re winning," Munster stated optimistically.
The next matches will test Rivera's growing role as a key playmaker. Munster believes his development is essential for Persebaya to achieve better results after last season’s disappointment.
