Shin Tae-yong and Jay Idzes Share Insight into Indonesia's Chemistry Ahead of Japan Clash
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Head coach Shin Tae-yong and center-back Jay Idzes highlighted the Indonesian national team’s camaraderie and growing cohesion as they prepare to face Japan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Group C, on Friday (11/15) at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
Shin emphasized the importance of building a cohesive unit, especially against a top-tier team like Japan. “This team has shown improvement, and we’re starting to see a stronger bond on the field,” Shin said during Thursday’s pre-match press conference.
Jay Idzes echoed his coach’s sentiments, noting how the blend of local and international players has boosted team morale. “Despite recent results, there’s a good mix in the squad, and you can see the chemistry improving each day,” he shared, highlighting their efforts to gel as a unit.
Reflecting on Indonesia’s qualifying journey, Idzes noted the positive start with draws against Australia and Saudi Arabia, despite recent losses to China and Bahrain.
“Getting points against Australia and Saudi Arabia was encouraging, and we’re still working on perfecting our style of play,” he explained.
With three points so far, Indonesia is currently positioned fifth in the group but remains hopeful of climbing the ranks if they perform well against Japan and Saudi Arabia.
With the squad energized and unified, Shin Tae-yong and Idzes are optimistic about Indonesia’s chances in the intense upcoming matches. “We’re focused on each game as it comes, with a team that is ready to fight,” Shin concluded.
