Jay Idzes Highlights Strong Team Spirit as Indonesia Prepares for Japan
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesian center-back Jay Idzes expressed optimism regarding the national team's internal atmosphere as they approach their fifth match in the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers against powerhouse Japan at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Friday (11/15/2024).
In a pre-match press conference held on Thursday, Idzes shared that the team’s spirit is high, despite recent losses to China and Bahrain.
“The atmosphere within the team is positive, and we’re seeing good chemistry between local players and those playing abroad,” said Idzes, citing a growing sense of unity in training.
"You can see it day by day, whether on the field or around the training area, everyone is connecting well, and I think it shows when we play together,” he added.
Idzes also acknowledged that the journey so far has been challenging, though it started strong with draws against Australia and Saudi Arabia.
“Getting two points against Australia and Saudi Arabia was a big step, even if the last two results were disappointing,” the Venezia FC defender reflected.
Despite setbacks, he emphasized Indonesia’s determination to do their best over the remaining matches, including the upcoming games against Japan and Saudi Arabia.
With three points in Group C, Indonesia needs to gain points from the next few matches to stay in contention for the fourth round of the qualifiers.
Japan currently tops the group with ten points, and while this match is a test for Indonesia, Idzes is confident that the team’s cohesion and strong spirit could make a difference.
