SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Kevin Diks is confirmed to play for Indonesia’s national team in their match against Japan on (11/15/2024). This news was shared by PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir on Monday, (11/11/2024).
"Alhamdulillah, Kevin Diks has finally been confirmed to play and strengthen the Indonesian National Team when Garuda faces Japan on November 15, 2024," he said.
The swift efforts of all involved parties expedited the naturalization process, allowing the defender to join the national team in time for the Japan match. Initially, Diks was uncertain to play due to the tight timeline.
“Thank you to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who consistently supports Indonesian football. Appreciation also goes to the DPR RI, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy, and everyone who assisted in Kevin Diks’ naturalization process, enabling it to conclude swiftly.” he said, emphasizing his thankfulness for all the party who has helped Kevin Diks in the process.
The presence of Diks, who has experience playing in the European Champions League, is expected to strengthen the back line of the Indonesian national team, especially as the opponent they are facing is one of Asia's giants, namely Japan.
The Indonesian national team will continue its struggle to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Garuda squad will play two home matches at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, against Japan on (15/11/2024) and Saudi Arabia on (19/11/2024).
Currently, Indonesia is in fifth place with three points from three draws and one defeat.
Erick Thohir is targeting the Indonesian national team to finish in fourth place in Group C, so that they can advance to the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualification in the Asian Zone.
