Seatoday.com, Jakarta The first gold medal for the Indonesian contingent at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games was won by runner Saptoyogo. The second gold medal was won by Maulana Rifky Yavianda, who appeared in the men's S12 backstroke swimming event.
The swimming competition was held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Aquatic Sports Arena on Monday (10/23). In that race, Rifky finished in front with a time of 1 minute, 03.55 seconds.
Not only did Rifky win a gold medal, he even broke two records at once. The two records are the previous Asian record of 1 minute 03.98 seconds and the previous Asian Para Games record of 1 minute 09.38 seconds.
"The feeling is, Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to have been given a gold and broke the Asian record," said Rifky after the competition, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“I experienced a few obstacles during preparation for the race because I felt nervous. "Hopefully in the future, I can donate more medals," added Rifky.
Rifky was able to beat Iran's representative, Mohammadhossein Karimi Jahan Abadi, who was behind him by a difference of 6.40 seconds in the match. As a result, Karimi had to settle for winning the silver medal.
Meanwhile, Roman Potpov from Kazakhstan won the bronze medal. He is 6.70 seconds away from Rifky.
Agni Herarta coach Anindya Satria is also grateful for the support from the Indonesian government and the NPC for Rifky's achievements.
“Alhamdulillah, this is Indonesia's victory, a victory for all of us. I would like to thank the Indonesian government and NPC for their support. "This is a good result for Rifky because he fought to break his personal best time record and also broke the Asian record," said Agni.
Rifky's gold was the second gold medal for the Indonesian contingent in today's competition. The first gold for Indonesia in Asian Para Games 2022 was previously presented by Saptoyogo Purnomo in the men's T37 400-meter athletics.
