SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairman Erick Thohir called for coach Shin Tae-yong and the players to conduct a self-assessment following Indonesia's defeat against Iraq in the second leg of the Asian Zone qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, held on Thursday (6/6) at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.

"Iraq played well, and a penalty caused by a handball and our mistakes cost us points. Additionally, the red card made things even more challenging. The coaches and players need to self-assess," Erick explained.

He also mentioned that there is still a chance to qualify. Indonesia must win against the Philippines in their upcoming match on Tuesday (6/11).

""There's still a chance to advance to the third round. Our opponent is the Philippines on June 11. They're not the same team they used to be and could pose a threat since we only drew 1-1 away. I'm sure the Philippines are different. The Philippines football president is new and said he wants to be like Indonesia. So, don't ever see the Philippines as an inferior team. So we have to evaluate again to qualify for the next round with a win," he said.
