FIFA Approves VAR for Indonesia's Liga 1 Starting May

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PT Liga Indonesia Baru conducted the final stage of trials for the application of a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in Indonesian Liga 1 on Monday (3/25).

Following the successful trial, FIFA has approved the use of VAR technology in Liga 1 matches starting in May. However, FIFA will continue to monitor and finalize the referee's understanding of the VAR implementation protocol.

PT Liga Indonesia Baru's Technology Project Manager, Muhammad Syafiq Bahanan, said that in the system will utilize a total of seven referees, with four officiating on the field (one main referee, two assistant referees, and one reserve) and three stationed in the VAR room (VAR referee, VAR assistant referee, and VAR operator).

Currently, Indonesia has 13 licensed VAR referees and 22 licensed VAR assistant referees.
