BWF Approves Anthony Ginting's Ranking Protection

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) approved a request for ranking protection of Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
“Protection ranking is valid from 3 months from March 25 to June 24, 2025 with a total of 50,155 points,” PBSI wrote in a written statement, Thursday (3/27/2025).
PBSI said that Ginting could only participate in the tournament again on or after June 25, 2025.
PBSI applied for rank protection on March 25, 2025 because Ginting needed a longer recovery time due to a right shoulder injury.
PBSI Head of Development and Achievement Eng Hian revealed that Ginting had suffered a cartilage injury and right shoulder muscle inflammation since the preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At that time, initial treatment was carried out, but it was not optimal because it was close to the Olympic schedule.
“After the Olympics, the pain that Ginting felt was increasingly unbearable. Further examination shows that he needs intensive therapy in order to fully recover and return to his best performance,” Eng Hian said.
Previously, Ginting had targeted to return to action at the All England 2025, but due to a recurrence of injury, he had to withdraw from the tournament.
Not only that, Ginting will be absent from the 2025 Asian Badminton Championships in Ningbo, China, on April 8-13. His position in the tournament was replaced by Alwi Farhan.
After undergoing an MRI and consultation with orthopedic and sports medicine specialists, Ginting must follow a five-stage rehabilitation program which is expected to take at least three months.
Throughout 2025, Ginting only appeared in the Malaysia Open 2025 before injury again prevented him from participating in the tournament.
