Indonesia Earns One Point After a 2-2 Draw Against Bahrain
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia's national team secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Bahrain in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The match took place at Bahrain National Stadium on Thursday, (October/10/2024). Despite some tense moments, Indonesia managed to come away with one point.
Bahrain took the early lead in the 15th minute with a free-kick goal by Mohamed Mahroon. His well-placed shot from distance left Indonesian goalkeeper Maarten Paes helpless, putting the hosts up 1-0. Indonesia responded late in the first half when Ragnar Oratmangoen equalized during added time (45+7), capitalizing on an assist from Ivar Jenner.
In the second half, coach Shin Tae-yong made crucial substitutions, aiming to boost Indonesia's attack. The changes paid off when Rafael Struick found the back of the net in the 74th minute, putting Indonesia ahead 2-1. Bahrain, however, pushed hard for an equalizer and finally succeeded with a second goal from Mahroon in the 90+9 minute.
Both teams played cautiously at the start, searching for openings without rushing their attacks. As the game progressed, Indonesia built pressure through quick passes and attempted crosses but struggled to break down Bahrain’s defense.
Coach Shin expressed mixed emotions after the match, praising the team’s effort while acknowledging the late goal they conceded. "We played well, especially after adjusting our tactics, but it’s disappointing to let in a goal at the last moment," said Shin Tae-yong.
