SEAToday.com, Jakarta - In a significant development for Indonesia's national team, goalkeeper Maarten Paes has arrived in Bahrain, completing the squad of 27 players ahead of their crucial match against the host nation. This match is part of the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in Asia.

Paes's presence was confirmed through an official Instagram video showcasing his warm greetings to teammates like Jay Idzes and Ragnar Oratmangoen.

However, Paes's return does not guarantee him a starting position. The FC Dallas goalkeeper is currently recovering from a wrist injury sustained at the end of September.

His absence from two Major League Soccer matches against San Jose and Portland raises questions about his readiness for the upcoming match against Bahrain.

Team manager Sumardji has stated that the medical staff will evaluate Paes’s injury upon his arrival in Bahrain. This assessment will determine if he can take to the field against Bahrain's national team, known as Dilmun's Warriors.

The upcoming match is set to take place at the National Stadium in Bahrain on Thursday, (10/10), at 23:00 WIB. Indonesia’s national team aims to build on their performance after a recent draw against Saudi Arabia. Coach Shin Tae-yong expressed confidence in his players, highlighting their potential as "dark horses" in the qualifiers.

With Paes joining the team, Indonesia hopes to solidify their chances in Group C. The squad's preparation has been extensive, and their recent performance has fueled optimism. As they prepare to face Bahrain, the Indonesian team is focused on securing vital points in their World Cup qualifying journey.
