SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Jay Idzes became the first Indonesian player to debut in Serie A. This is after he played for Venezia FC against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium, Firenze, Sunday (25/8). The match of the second week of Serie A ended in a 0-0 draw.

After the match, the Indonesian national team defender was proud and hoped that his progress could be followed by other Indonesian players.

“I'm very proud to be the first Indonesian player to play in Serie A. I hope there will be more Indonesian players playing at a high level in the future. Hopefully my achievements can inspire many people,” said Jay Idzes as quoted from PSSI official website.

In the match, Jay Idzes made 58 touches, 3 clearances, and one interception and tackle. He played for 68 minutes before being replaced by Michael Svoboda.

His performance with Venezia received a lot of praise and is certainly history for Indonesia.

Jay Idzes also added that his current condition is no problem. And is ready to join the Indonesian national team ahead of the third round of 2026 World Cup Qualifying matches against Saudi Arabia and Australia.

“No, no, no. Everything is fine. Nothing serious,” said the 24-year-old player.

The Garuda squad will first travel to King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Jeddah, to fight Saudi Arabia, Thursday (5/9). After that, they host Australia at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/9).

“We have an amazing opportunity ahead of us. We're playing against great countries and we have a chance to qualify for the World Cup,” Jay Idzes explains.

“We want to show what we can do and we want to put Indonesia on the world map,” he says.
