Aji Santoso: Indonesia Must Not Rely Solely on Marselino

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Legendary Indonesian footballer Aji Santoso emphasized, on (12/18/2024), that the national team cannot depend solely on Marselino Ferdinan against the Philippines. The decisive Group B match in the ASEAN Cup 2024 will take place at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Saturday, (12/21).
"Marselino is a quality player, but the team cannot rely only on him," said Aji. Having coached Marselino at Persebaya Surabaya, Aji understands his former protégé's importance, especially with his experience in the senior team.
At just 20 years old, Marselino already boasts 31 caps and five goals since his debut in 2022. Despite his significance, Aji urged other players to capitalize on the attention Marselino will draw from the Philippine defense.
This strategy could create space for others to exploit, increasing Indonesia’s attacking options. "When opponents focus on Marselino, it’s a chance for others to step up and pose a threat," Aji added.
By diversifying their approach, Indonesia could improve their chances of securing a semifinal spot. Aji reminded the team that success lies in teamwork and utilizing all available opportunities on the field.
