Erick Thohir to Shin Tae-yong: Stop Complaining

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir responded to Shin Tae-yong's complaints about the tight ASEAN Cup 2024 schedule, Monday, (12/17/2024), urging the coach to focus on the agreed program.
"Stop talking too much, stop complaining. Let’s just focus on the plan we’ve committed to," Erick said after the PSSI Partner Summit 2024 in Jakarta.
Shin had previously criticized the match schedule, citing only three days between group-stage games under the home-and-away format. He proposed a return to the old home-tournament system used before 2016.
Addressing this, Erick acknowledged that tight schedules are common in modern football, particularly in Europe, where teams balance league matches with competitions like the Champions League.
"It’s exhausting, yes, but it’s part of the game," Erick explained.
He emphasized that Indonesia’s target in the ASEAN Cup is clear: to develop young players for bigger future tournaments. "We need commitment to our programs, no excuses," Erick concluded.
