FIRST IN HISTORY! Paris 2024 Olympics Offer Nursery for Parent Athletes
SEAToday.com, Paris - For the first time ever, the Paris 2024 Olympics will offer childcare services for parent athletes. This initiative provides a dedicated space for athletes to have quality time with their children from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily during the competition.
Located in the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Village Plaza, the nursery will allow athletes to spend quality time with their children and provide a private space for breastfeeding.
Children and their dedicated carers will be able to visit the space by obtaining a guest pass from the relevant National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The facility will include a special area for breastfeeding mothers and diaper changing. Two families can use the nursery simultaneously, creating precious Olympic memories together.
IOC Athletes' Commission Chair Emma Terho emphasized the importance of this service in growing parent-child bonds, especially during such a significant event.
‘Many athletes are trying to balance their sporting careers and their families. I know what it was like when I competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics as a mum with a young child. Pregnancy and motherhood are natural paths in life, and they don't mean the end of a career for female athletes. It's helpful for parents and babies to spend time together, especially at such an important moment in an athlete's sporting life. These kindergartens allow that to happen, while giving athletes the opportunity to focus on the Games,’ said IOC AC Chair Emma Terho.
