Ole Romeny is Enthusiastic to Defend the Indonesian National Team, Ready to Contribute in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia’s newest national team recruit, Ole Romeny, is eager to join the Garuda squad. The 24-year-old striker is ready to contribute to the Red-and-White team after officially becoming an Indonesian citizen.
“I can’t wait to play for all the fans and the people of Indonesia and give my best for the national team,” Romeny said in an Instagram post by PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir on Sunday (2/9). He made this statement after taking his oath of allegiance as an Indonesian citizen in London, England, on Saturday (2/8).
Romeny is not the only player undergoing naturalization this time. He joins Dion Markx and Tim Geypens, who are projected to strengthen Indonesia’s U-20 national team.
The former FC Utrecht player also expressed his gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who played a role in facilitating his citizenship process.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for making this process possible. It is truly an honor to represent this country,” Romeny added.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized that the arrival of Romeny, Markx, and Geypens is part of PSSI’s strategy to strengthen the national team at all levels.
“In addition to the senior national team, we are also reinforcing the youth teams with top talents who are ready to fight for the Red-and-White,” said Erick.
Romeny currently plays for the English club Oxford United, which he joined during the winter transfer window on January 5. So far, he has made three substitute appearances, playing a total of 35 minutes, including matches against Stoke City, Bristol City, and Burnley.
Romeny is expected to make his debut for Indonesia in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in March. The Garuda squad is set to face Australia in Sydney on March 20 before hosting Bahrain in Jakarta on March 25.
