Manchester City Wins 3-1 Against Club Brugge, Reaches Champions League Play-offs

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Manchester City secured their spot in the Champions League play-offs after defeating Club Brugge 3-1 in their eighth group stage match at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, early Thursday (1/30) morning Western Indonesia Time.
City's victory in this match came from goals by Mateo Kovacic, Joel Ordonez (own goal), and Savinho, while Club Brugge managed to reduce the deficit with a goal from Raphael Onyedika.
As a result, Manchester City finished in 22nd place in the final group stage standings with 11 points from the eight matches played.
Despite the loss, Club Brugge advanced to the Champions League round of 16 play-offs, finishing in 24th place with the same number of points as City.
In terms of statistics, City dominated possession with 74% and registered 17 shots, six of which were on target. However, Brugge posed an early threat with a shot from Chemsdine Talbi that was saved by City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.
City made several attempts to take the lead, but their efforts were fruitless. As the first half neared its end, Brugge managed to score through Raphael Onyedika’s strike from a Ferran Jutgla assist, giving Brugge a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute.
In the second half, City quickly took the initiative to attack and equalized in the 53rd minute with a goal from Mateo Kovacic, making the score 1-1.
The goal sparked a surge in confidence for Pep Guardiola’s side, who then took the lead in the 62nd minute through an own goal by Joel Ordonez, who misjudged the ball, making it 2-1.
City continued to press Brugge’s defense and extended their lead in the 77th minute to 3-1 after Savinho converted a pass from John Stones into a goal.
Despite continued attacks, City didn’t add any more goals, and the score remained 3-1 until the final whistle.
