SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, revealed that they will appoint an assistant coach for the Indonesian national team who will specifically be responsible for handling the player regeneration process in youth age groups.

"There is indeed a plan to appoint an assistant coach in the national team who will focus on player regeneration. It is also possible that he will assist in the youth teams. We are still in the finalization stage, and the announcement will be made together with (head coach) Patrick Kluivert," said Erick, as quoted in PSSI's official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Currently, PSSI has appointed two assistant coaches from the Netherlands, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat, to support the Indonesian national team. Additionally, two local assistant coaches from Indonesia will also join Patrick Kluivert's coaching staff.

However, Erick stated that PSSI will add one more assistant coach who will collaborate with the coaching teams at various levels, including U-17, U-20, U-23, and the senior team.

Furthermore, Erick explained that this decision has gone through careful consideration and extensive discussions. He also mentioned the possibility that the assistant coach responsible for player regeneration will be announced before the PSSI technical director, who is scheduled to be introduced at the end of February 2025.

"I believe that a good program does not only depend on the quality of the coaches and players but also on a sustainable regeneration process, where each coach can collaborate effectively," Erick added.

Patrick Kluivert, who was officially appointed as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on January 9, 2025, is currently forming the coaching team structure to manage the Garuda squad.

In the coaching structure, the Barcelona legend will be assisted by two Indonesian assistant coaches, who are still in the selection process and are expected to be announced in February 2025.
