SEAToday.com, Jakarta – Newly appointed head coach of the Indonesian national team, Patrick Kluivert, has outlined his ambitions for the upcoming third-round matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Indonesia will face Australia and Bahrain in March, with Kluivert aiming to secure four crucial points from these two games.

He has set a target of earning one point in the away match against Australia and securing three points in the home match against Bahrain.

“My goal is to qualify for the World Cup. We aim to stay solid against Australia and also against Bahrain. Our target is to collect four points,” Kluivert stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday.

Indonesia has four remaining matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will be critical in determining whether the Garuda team advances directly, progresses through the fourth round, or falls short in the qualifiers.

For Kluivert, these remaining games carry immense significance. The former player of Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, and Barcelona views these matches as a series of finals that must be won.

“We will instill this sense of urgency in the players to ensure we are all aligned in achieving our objectives. It is also important for everyone to support the team so we can realize our goals,” said the 48-year-old coach.

On the same occasion, Kluivert elaborated on his two-pronged strategy after assuming his role as head coach. His short-term focus is to secure Indonesia's qualification for the 2026 World Cup, while his long-term vision includes taking the team to the 2028 Olympics and the 2030 World Cup.
