SEAToday.com, Paris - A total of 5,084 medals for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be made of metal from pieces of the Eiffel Tower. The metal pieces were taken from the warehouse of the company that manages the 330-meter tower.
At the medal design launch on Thursday (2/8), the organizers unveiled the gold, silver and bronze medals for the world sporting event. The medals, designed by jewelry house Chaumet, are hexagons with a shimmering circular background, representing the contours of the French mainland.
The other side of the Olympic medal features Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, the Eiffel Tower and the Acropolis. The Paralympic medals feature a low-angle view of the Eiffel Tower and the inscriptions "Paris 2024" are written in universal braille.
The winning athlete takes home not only a medal, but also a piece of one of France's most iconic monuments.
