Liverpool Stays on Top After 2-1 Win Over Wolves

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Liverpool further strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table after securing a 2-1 victory over Wolves in Matchweek 25 at Anfield on Sunday (2/16) night Indonesian Western Time. The three additional points bring The Reds’ total to 60, extending their lead over second-placed Arsenal to seven points. Meanwhile, Wolves remain in a difficult position, sitting 17th with 19 points, just two points away from the relegation zone.
The home side started aggressively, pressing from both flanks. Their attacking approach paid off in the 15th minute when Luis Diaz capitalized on a loose ball to slot it past Jose Sa, giving Liverpool the early lead.
Liverpool doubled their advantage in the 35th minute after Jose Sa fouled a Liverpool player inside the penalty area. Mohamed Salah stepped up as the penalty taker and calmly converted from the spot, making it 2-0 by halftime.
In the second half, Liverpool controlled possession with a slower tempo while maintaining dominance. However, their attacking focus left them vulnerable at the back. In the 67th minute, Ricner Bellegarde’s through ball found Matheus Cunha, who was left unmarked and fired an accurate shot past Alisson Becker to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Despite Liverpool’s continued pressure in search of another goal, Wolves' solid defensive performance prevented any further damage, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of The Reds.
Up next, Liverpool will travel to Aston Villa on February 20, while Wolves will face Bournemouth away two days later.
