SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, remains vigilant over the recovery of goalkeeper Maarten Paes ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Bahrain. The crucial match is set to take place at the Bahrain National Stadium on Thursday, (10/10/2024).

Although Paes has rejoined the squad in Bahrain, his hand injury is still being evaluated by the team’s medical staff to determine his availability.

“We are currently assessing his condition. There’s about a 70 percent chance that he will play,” Shin Tae-yong said on Tuesday, (10/8/2024). The team will continue monitoring Paes' progress over the next two days before making a final decision on his participation in the upcoming match.

Despite Paes’ injury, Shin Tae-yong has assured fans that it is not a major concern. The coach emphasized that the injury is not severe, which is why Paes was still called up to the squad for these crucial matches.

Paes, who plays for FC Dallas, is expected to be a key figure in Indonesia’s campaign in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, where they face Bahrain and China.

"The injury is not too serious. We’ll decide later," Shin Tae-yong clarified, highlighting his cautious approach to ensuring Paes’ readiness without risking further injury.

With two important matches on the horizon, Shin Tae-yong’s cautious optimism reflects his confidence in Indonesia’s overall squad. The team is preparing for both challenges, aiming to secure valuable points in their quest for World Cup qualification.
