SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team is ramping up its training sessions as they prepare to face Japan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Group C. Set for Friday, (11/15), at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Central Jakarta, this clash will not only showcase Indonesia's developing talent but also highlight the team’s resilience against a long-standing Asian powerhouse.

“All the players have just joined, and the team's condition and preparation are progressing well,” head coach Shin Tae-yong stated.

Japan has a history of dominating Asia’s football scene, securing World Cup berths in every tournament since 1998; nevertheless, Shin aims to bolster Indonesia’s confidence, urging his squad to remain composed and unyielding.

“As we know, Japan is Asia's top-ranked team in the FIFA standings, but what's important is the players' confidence. Whether it’s physically or in any other way, we won't be mentally defeated by them,” Shin emphasized, underscoring his focus on mental strength as key to countering Japan's physical prowess.

In today’s practice, Kevin Diks joined the Garuda Squad after arriving in Jakarta. His addition is crucial as Indonesia faces back-to-back games, with another intense match against Saudi Arabia scheduled soon after in their sixth Group C fixture.

Japan currently leads Group C with ten points from four matches, showcasing their consistency in both offensive and defensive plays. Indonesia, in fifth place with three points, will need to capitalize on every opportunity as they aim for a surprise upset on home turf.
