One gold medal was successfully presented by Ni Made Arianti Putri from the women's 100 m T12 race in the competition, which took place at the Huanglong Sports Center Stadium on Tuesday (24/10).
Arianti finished fastest with a time of 12.52 seconds. This success led Arianti to win a gold medal for Indonesia at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
Meanwhile, the silver medal was won by a runner from India, Simran, with a time of 12.68 seconds, followed by a bronze medal won by Yaqin Shen from China with a time of 12.78 seconds.
“Alhamdulillah, this morning para-athletics were able to add more medals. Arianti won the gold medal as a surprise. "For Arianti, it was a real surprise because initially she was only targeted to win a bronze medal, but instead she was able to win a gold medal," said Slamet Widodo, Indonesian athletics coach, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Indonesian Athletics also added one silver medal in the 2022 Asian Para Games, which was contributed by a sprinter. In the 100-meter T12 race, Eko finished in second place with a time of 11.22 seconds.
The gold medal in this event was won by Iranian athlete Mehrdad Moradi with a time of 11.17 seconds, and bronze went to Japanese runner Daiki Ishyama with a time of 11.36 seconds. "The silver medal that Eko achieved was in accordance with what was targeted for him," explained Slamet.
Eko actually admitted that he was surprised to be able to increase the target set for the 2022 Asian Para Games, which was only a bronze medal, but in reality, he was able to improve the target to a silver medal.
“My initial target was a bronze medal; maybe that target was quite tough because my opponents were also very tough. "But I am optimistic and grateful to be able to get a silver medal," said Eko.
