Indonesian Football Association Postpones League 1 23/24 Ahead of AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) postponed the BRI League 1 2023/24 competition based on the decision of the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) emergency meeting, Saturday (3/30).
Previously, several clubs objected to sending their players to the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024, because the BRI League 1 2023/24 competition is ongoing. With this postponement, the clubs have no reasons not to release the players called up by Coach Shin Tae-yong.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir hopes that with the best squad, the Indonesian national team’s good momentum can be maintained.
“Moreover, the Indonesian national team is on a roll and many have dreamed of their achievements. The squad qualified for the Round of 16 of the Asian Cup for the first time, and they have a shot at the World Cup Qualifications. Now, they have the chance to make it to the Olympics. This is our momentum to record history by doing the best for the team,” said Thohir.
