SEAToday.com, Jakarta - For the first time ever, Barongsai (Lion Dance) will be a contested sport at the upcoming 2024 National Sports Week (PON), co-hosted by Aceh and North Sumatra.
The inclusion comes under the umbrella of the Indonesian Lion Dance Sports Federation (FOBI), which previously held a qualifying round ("Pre-PON") in 2023.
At PON 2024, the Barongsai competition will be divided into three categories, namely Barongsai, Dragon Dance, and Pekingsai. A total of 10 events will be contested within these categories.
PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 will take place from September 8 to 20, featuring competitions across 28 sports. This year also marks a historic first, the first time PON will be held in two provinces simultaneously.
