SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PSSI plans to naturalize three diaspora players ahead of Indonesia’s match against Australia in the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers on March 20.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir stated that the naturalization process is progressing well and is expected to strengthen the Garuda squad for the match against Australia.

"Alhamdulillah, the process of strengthening our team for the match against Australia seems to be moving in a positive direction. FIFA has issued the necessary documents for Ole Romeny, so he will be able to play. This is crucial, especially since some of our forwards, like Ragnar (Oratmangoen), will be unavailable due to yellow card accumulation," Erick said during a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday.

In addition to the attacking line, PSSI is also looking to reinforce the goalkeeper position. Erick highlighted Maarten Paes’ exceptional performance but emphasized the need for competition in the position. To address this, PSSI is currently pursuing former Palermo goalkeeper Emil Audero Mulyadi.

For midfield reinforcement, Erick mentioned that PSSI is in talks with Joey Pelupessy, who could make a valuable contribution to the team. "He has been in discussions and is considering his decision. Currently, he is the captain of his club and has experience playing in the Eredivisie, England with Sheffield Wednesday, and now in the Belgian league. I believe his presence could strengthen our midfield, which still needs additional quality players," Erick explained.

Meanwhile, PSSI is also working on securing Dean James to bolster the team’s defensive options. "We need additional depth in the left-back and wing-back positions, as well as a left midfielder who can support the team if our attacking players lack depth. This is the process we are currently working on," he added.

Furthermore, Erick stated that PSSI has reported this plan to President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo. Starting next week, the naturalization process will be accelerated.

"We are pushing to ensure they can play in March. Ole is already confirmed, but for the other three, we will expedite all necessary documents. I also plan to meet with the House of Representatives' Commission X on Monday (2/24) evening to secure their continued strong support for the Indonesian national team," he concluded.
