SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Real Madrid successfully reclaimed the top position in the 2024/25 LaLiga standings from Atletico Madrid after securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Las Palmas in the 20th-week match at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on early Monday (1/20) morning, Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

Kylian Mbappe starred in the match by scoring a brace, while Brahim Diaz and Rodrygo contributed the other two goals. Las Palmas initially took the lead through Fabio Silva’s goal.

With this win, Madrid now has 46 points, two points ahead of Atletico Madrid, who suffered a defeat against Leganes. Barcelona sits in third place, trailing by seven points, while Las Palmas is in 14th place with 22 points, according to LaLiga's official website.

Las Palmas stunned the hosts by scoring an early goal in less than a minute. Fabio Silva capitalized on a cross from Sandro Ramirez to put his team ahead 1-0.

Madrid nearly equalized in the 3rd minute, but Brahim Diaz’s close-range shot from Rodrygo's pass went wide.

Los Blancos then dominated the game and had a golden opportunity in the 8th minute through a shot by Mbappe, but goalkeeper Jesper Cillessen managed to save it.

Madrid’s pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty after Sandro fouled Rodrygo inside the penalty area. Mbappe stepped up and successfully converted it into a goal in the 18th minute, leveling the score at 1-1.

Madrid took the lead 2-1 in the 33rd minute after Brahim Diaz capitalized on a rebound from Mbappe's shot, which was initially saved by Cillessen.

Three minutes later, Madrid extended their lead to 3-1 when Mbappe fired a powerful shot after receiving a pass from Rodrygo. He almost completed a hat-trick in the 42nd minute, but his goal was disallowed by VAR due to offside.

In the 57th minute, Madrid added another goal, with Rodrygo tapping in Fran Garcia’s low cross to make it 4-1.

Las Palmas faced further difficulties after going down to 10 men in the 64th minute. Benito Ramirez received a red card for a foul on Lucas Vazquez.

Despite having a numerical advantage, Madrid couldn't add more goals, although Jude Bellingham found the net in the 74th minute, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside.

The match ended with a 4-1 victory for Madrid, securing their return to the top of the LaLiga standings.
