SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Patrick Kluivert, the new head coach of the Indonesian National Football Team, was officially introduced to the public on Sunday afternoon (12/1) during a press conference held by PSSI in Jakarta. The former top Dutch striker replaces Shin Tae-yong, who coached Indonesia for the past five years.

During his introduction, Kluivert expressed his readiness to face significant challenges, including the high expectations from Indonesian football fans eager to see the Garuda team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

"I’m someone who enjoys pressure," Kluivert said. "My main task is to create an immediate impact, which means achieving victories. The remaining four matches are like four finals that we must win."

Indonesia is currently in third place in their group in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with six points from six matches. Despite the challenges, the opportunity to qualify directly or through the playoffs remains wide open.

Kluivert, known as one of the best strikers in Dutch football history, boasts an impressive playing career. He has represented top European clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Barcelona, Valencia, Newcastle United, PSV Eindhoven, and Lille. His experience is expected to bring positive changes to the Indonesian national team.

This press conference marks the beginning of Kluivert’s journey with the Garuda team, carrying high hopes for success in upcoming international competitions.
