PSSI Chairman Responds to Other Countries' Offers to Coach Shin Tae Yong
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae Yong (STY) has admitted that he has received an offer to coach another country after being eliminated from the last 16 of the Asian Cup 2023. This was revealed by Shin Tae Yong in an interview with South Korean media Sports Kyunghyang on Monday (1/29).
In response, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized the principle of professionalism regarding Shin Tae Yong's contract extension, which is based on two parameters, namely the qualification of the senior national team to the 16 major Asian Cups and the 8 major U-23 Asian Cups. Erick said that although he is satisfied with STY's performance so far, his party needs to set a performance target at the Asian level for the coach who has been in charge of Indonesia since 2019.
As for information, Shin Tae-yong's contract with PSSI expires in June 2024. Previously, Shin Tae-yong's four-year contract with the Indonesian national team expired in December 2023.
