SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia dinobatkan sebagai juara umum ASEAN University Games (AUG) ke-21 2024 dengan mengoleksi 126 medali emas, 97 perak, dan 71 perunggu. Sementara itu, posisi kedua diraih oleh Thailand dengan catatan 53 emas, 49 perak, dan 29 perunggu. Disusul Malaysia di posisi ketiga dengan 38 emas, 47 perak, dan 62 perunggu.
Ketua Kontingen Mahasiswa Indonesia Del Asri, Sabtu (6/7), mengaku bersyukur karena selain menggenapi target juara umum, atlet-atlet Indonesia juga berhasil membuat sejarah dengan mencatatkan rekor baru.
Presiden ASEAN University Sport Council (AUSC) Prof Mohd Ruslim Mohammed menyampaikan, penyelenggaraan AUG 2024 di Indonesia kali ini mencatatkan sejarah baru, di mana setiap cabang olahraga diikuti oleh delegasi dari 11 negara. Sebelumnya, setiap cabang olahraga hanya diikuti beberapa delegasi saja, sehingga kini terjadi peningkatan keterlibatan atlet, pelatih, atau official dari aspek partisipasi.
