SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Australia meraih gelar juara usai mengalahkan Thailand lewat adu penalti dengan skor 8-7 (1-1) pada babak final Kejuaraan AFF U16 2024 yang digelar di Stadion Manahan, Solo, Rabu (3/7) malam.
Capaian ini menjadi gelar juara ketiga Piala AFF U16 bagi Australia setelah meeka meraih trofi pada edisi 2008 dan 2016. Tim asuhan Bradley John Maloney ini juara dengan catatan tak terkalahkan sejak fase grup.
Mereka meraih dua kemenangan dan satu hasil imbang di babak grup, lalu mengalahkan Timnas U16 Indonesia dengan skor 5-3 di babak semifinal.
Selanjutnya, Australia akan bertanding dalam kualifikasi AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 yang akan digelar pada 19-27 Oktober 2024. Mereka tergabung dalam grup G bersama Timnas U16 Indonesia, Kuwait, dan Kepulauan Mariana Utara.
